INTERNATIONAL DENTISTRY AFRICAN EDITION is a bi-monthly publication:

Submissions of manuscripts, including research and reviews related to clinical practice are invited. Manuscripts are considered for publication with the understanding that they have not been published elsewhere in any form or any language and are submitted solely to International Dentistry South Africa.

Peer Review
Acknowledgement/copyright
Submitted manuscripts are acknowledged, and all authors are requested to sign a copyright form.

Review
All manuscripts are reviewed blind by the Scientific Editor and members of the Editorial Board, after which they are returned to the author(s), either for revision or because they are deemed unsuitable for publication (insufficient originality, serious scientific or methodological flaws, or a message that is too specialised or of limited interest to a general dental audience). Communication from the Editorial Board will be directed to the corresponding author.

Revision
A request for revision does not imply that the manuscript has been accepted for publication, but is an opportunity to present the best possible article for a decision about publication. Authors are usually given one month to return the revised manuscript.

Submitting Articles
Manuscripts should be in MS Word format, double—spaced with wide margins, with all illustrations in JPEG (high resolution) format. Only electronically submitted manuscripts will be accepted. Submissions should be sent to The Editorial Board: dentsa@iafrica.com

Title Page

  • Include full name, academic degrees and institutional affiliations and locations
  • If presented as part of a meeting, please state the name, date and location of the meeting
  • Sources of support in the form of grants, equipment, products or drugs must be disclosed
  • Full contact details for the correspondent author must be supplied
  • Key words
  • Short title

Articles
The article must be organized as following:

Abstract
Introduction
Materials and Methods
Results
Discussion
Conclusions
References
Tables/Illustrations

Abstract
The abstract should be divided into the following sections:

  • Objectives
  • Methods and Materials
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusions
  • Clinical Significance
  • Key words

Tables/Illustrations

  • Tables and illustrations should be numbered and cited in the text in order of appearance
  • Each table should be on a separate page, with a title, roman letter and footnotes
  • Tables should be cited in the text
  • Illustrations should be clearly identified with progressive numbers
  • Each illustration should have a caption with corresponding number
  • Captions should be supplied together on a separate page

References
All references should appear in the list of references and numbered consecutively as they appear in the text. Only published references can be used. References should include the names and initials of the authors, the full title of the paper, the abbreviated title of the journal, year of publication, volume number and first and last page numbers, eg:

Article reference
1. Vichi A, Grandini S, Ferrari M. Clinical procedure for luting glass-fiber posts. J Adhes Dent2001;3:353-359.

Book reference
2. Nakabayashi N, Pashley DH. Hybridization of dental hard tissue. Berlin: Quintessence Co.Publ. 1998

Permissions
Written permission must be obtained for material that has been published in copyrighted material; this includes tables, figures, pictures and quoted text that exceeds 150 words. Signed release forms are required for photographs of identifiable persons.

Disclosure of Financial Interest
Authors must disclose any financial interest they have in products mentioned in their articles.

Peer Review

Submitted manuscripts are acknowledged, and all authors are requested to sign a copyright form.

Review
All manuscripts are initially reviewed by the Clinical Editor and those deemed unsuitable (insufficient originality, serious scientific or methodological flaws, or a message that is too specialised or of limited interest to a general dental audience) are returned to the author(s) within 6 weeks.

Manuscripts are sent, blinded, to two or three experts. After reassessment by the Clinical Editor they are returned to the author(s), either for revision or because they are unsuitable for publication.

Revision
A request for revision does not imply that the manuscript has been accepted for publication, but is an opportunity to present the best possible article for a decision about publication. Authors are usually given two weeks to return the revised manuscript.

Acceptance/rejection
The Clinical Editor makes the final decision on publication of an article.

Submitting Articles
Manuscripts should be in MS Word format. They should be double-spaced on one side of paper with a wide margin on the left side. A digital copy should be sent to: dentsa@iafrica.com for attention The Publishing Editor.
Dentistry South Africa reserves the right to edit articles for clarity and style as well as for the limitations of space available.

Pictures/Images
Digital images only are accepted and be must be high resolution – minimum 300dpi. Clinical shots must be at least 90mm wide. The following formats are preferred: .tif or jpeg. (Images in PowerPoint or MSWord will not be accepted). Digital images must accompany the manuscript and be sent via email to: dentsa@iafrica.com
Large files can be sent via file sharing sites such as Dropbox, Hightail, WeTransfer etc

Tables/Illustrations

  • Each table should be presented with double spacing on a separate page
  • Ensure that each table is cited in the text
  • Number tables consecutively and provide a brief title for each
  • Illustrations should be clearly identified with a number or letter
  • Captions with corresponding numbers must be provided on a separate page

References
